I can only imagine because they wanted all foreground items pin sharp. I shoot 28mm, I can't always get everything in focus enough even at f/11

If people focus stack normally, why not focus stack with a long exposure...?

This was a scene along route F570 on Snaefellsnes Peninsula in Iceland that I knew I just had to photograph as soon as it came into my view.

First time shooting with a Super Stopper (15-stop) and it turns out that it has the ability to make the horizon completely disappear. :lol: More than 5 minute exposure in full sunlight:

thats pretty cool. Can imagine some nice effects on seascapes with that where you can see more horizon (or not as it may be)

Agreed! I do think this one was a combination of the exposure time and the hot and hazy horizon this morning though – I can't imagine it will have the same effect every time.
