Since title puns are running rampant these days, I thought that I would join the fray. Just a head and shoulders shot.

American wigeon came up to check out my new 7D – then gave a nod of approval. I guess that they pick up bad habits from the permanent resident mallards. They’re cute little ducks that show up in large numbers at our little lake this time of the year.

Thank you caper. I was pleased with the nice catch light, too.

Thank you , Sharon. The sun was at a good angle to bring out some of the iridescence of the green feathers.

Thanks, Joe. I was just sitting still and this one wigeon seemed full of curiosity. It hesitated for a bit and then gradually worked its way closer to me and I just pretended that I wasn't paying attention. ;) It got within about 20 to 25 feet of me -- almost too close to focus. I am very pleased with the ISO 800 performance in good light.

Thanks, Steve. The weather has been ducky lately -- but not too good for photography. I am hoping that some woodies will show up later. I have not had an opportunity to photograph some of the wilder species.

Beautiful portrait Bill, I'd like to get close to some of these. I haven't made the shift to the ducks yet, I've seen some arrivals that I need to get after. Buffleheads, Hoodies and a few others. I'm a little obsessed with the Avocets right now.

Super shot, Bill. You have to love it when the subject cooperates like that.

Thanks for the compliment, Dan. I am guessing that the star is caused by the aperture shape at f/8.

Thanks, Steve. I feel your pain -- it's tough when you have so many customers and not enough time. ;)

Thanks for the compliment, Harvey. I got several shots of this wigeon, but the high contrast from direct sunlight made most unusable. I noticed later after reviewing the images that "Wige" has some sort of injury on its neck. It looks like a skin tear about a half-inch long. Initially, I thought that there was something tangled there like a fishing lure, but I don't think that is the case. The top edge of the injury can be seen at the lower right corner of the image.
