Hi guys.

I recently got a canon 30D and a tamron 28-75 f2.8 to try the canon system. Im loving the fast autofocus and ISO performance of the 30D. But..... Im having problems with colors.

Yes, colors. One of the reason I bought a canon system is because of the skin tone I get out of the camera. Not yellowish but rather quite look natural in my eyes (I use the portrait or standard color mode when I use Jpeg). But when I tried flower macro using the tamron lens..... i always get dull colors. The red looks somewhat dull pink/orange. My greens are not that green and looks dull.

But when I shoot portraits.. the colors are ok... not so dull but just fine for my taste.

The macro is my problem especially when shooting flowers.

Do I need to adjust something inside the camera or its just the lens? I know I can PP my shots but I always wanted to get it somewhat right to lessen my PP.

Are you using auto white balance? I find it can sometimes be a bit thrown by strong predominant colours. Try using daylight, or cloudy as appropriate. If you're shooting RAW, this setting will be used as the default for viewing, but you then have freedom to change white balance after the shot.

AWB isn't very good indoors, either. Notice that the very last exposure in the 2nd group of tests was of a gray card, & it's way off.

Good concept, but when you can batch convert all your tweaks from RAW, it doesn't make all that much sense to me. And making corrections when I convert from RAW, it effectively means they are done in 12-bit (higher resolution) instead of jpg's 8-bit. Just another benefit of taking a bit more time in the workflow. Think of it as a free camera upgrade & you can keep that "upgrade money" in your pocket longer. ;)

It's just faster. With jpgs, I'd have to:
Open the image.
Open the correction dialog box. Make that correction. Close it.
Open the next correction dialog box. Make that correction. Close it.
Open the next correction dialog box. Make that correction. Close it.
Open the next correction dialog box. Make that correction. Close it.
Etc, etc...

Finally there's this: Take identical shots, one RAW & then one max jpeg. Convert the RAW file to jpeg. Look at the two file sizes.
A max jpg from my 20D is 2,754 KB. The exact same shot with the jpg extracted from RAW is 4,315 KB which is 1.57X larger.
Why throw those extra bits away?
