I've been looking for some "antlers" as they are moving about more now, and finally captured this one in a field along a country road. Wish I had had the 400 and 50D, but instead had the 300 f/4 IS and 40D. Could have used the extra pixels! :(

Nice pictures, karen. They are very spookey this time of year.

Now, my nit-picky side. While "stag" loosely applies to all male deer, it is most proper with Male Red Deer. Most folks would call your shots those of a "Buck"

Well, not being a hunter and from the south, I didn't have a clue but thank you for correcting me. There were two does and two of this year's smaller deer, and the stag. They weren't that spooky but these are huge crops. They stayed in my sight for 20 minutes, just wandering around the field. First chance for me to shoot a buck and first time other than in Cades cove to shoot the deer, although I see them often.

Well, those are good shots. It is rutting season and that is why the deer get edgy. There was just an article in a Chicago paper warning people about deer and even saying it is a good idea not to make eye contact (LOL, your second shot might just belie that). A lot of the deer around here see a lot of people and that might make them more dangerous.

Couldn't be TOO dangerous as my car was beside me and I was about 75 yards away....lol.

The second is beautiful..

Get yourself the Kenko 1.4 for the 300 f/4 mine rarely comes off the lens as when I can afford the 400, it is not available and when in stock, I'm broke :)

I have the kenko 1.4 but haven't had good results using it when I tried it with my 400. I will have to try it with the 300 f/4. Thanks for reminding me!! And thanks for the comment.

I like both of these Karen....especially that 2nd one. Nicely done. We started out the front door the other morning and there were 3 deer laying in the front yard about 20 ft from the door.
