Hi guys; I've searched the internet and Adobe's site and cannot find the answer to my question.

How do I change the Open dialog default to "thumbnail view" rather than the "list view" state it is now in? I know there has to be a way but I just cannot find it.

What version of Photoshop are you using?

Open Photoshop and from the menu bar click on File > Open to get to the Open dialog box.

In the top left corner of the dialog box is a row of icons; click the View Menu drop-down box (its the fourth icon in the row from the left) and select one of the first 4 options in the list.

Note that this doesn't allow you to preview RAW files; to see RAW files you need the appropriate Codecs installed.

Thanks PixelMagic; I'm using CS4 and I know how to do what you've mentioned above but what I want to do is make "thumbnail view" the default so I don't have to do that each time.

The setting on my version of Photoshop CS4 is "sticky"....the option is the same whenever I open Photoshop and open photos through the dialog box.

Bummer; I click 'open' from the file menu, change the view from list to thumbnails, and select my image. However, the next time I go to file/open, it is back to list view. Hopefully someone can come up with an answer. I checked the Adobe site and could not find an answer.
