40D vs. 50D dilemma...

I've got a bit of a dilemma.

My father has a 40D that he's willing to part with for $600. The camera probably has less than 4K clicks on it, and it's been well cared for.

I've got a broken XTI as well, with which I can get a 50D for $629 through the Canon Loyalty Program.

Do I buy the 40D from my father? Or do I say "no thanks" to dad and get the 50D?

Or do I buy the 40D, and "save" the broken XTI until Canon comes out with a newer model than the 50D in their Loyalty Program?

Thoughts and comments are appreciated.

At that price differential, I'd go for micro adjustment capability.
