Since I have started getting into the OCF, I decided to try it out at the pool during a high school swim meet. Here is one of the best shots I came up with.

Used a bare flash set up on a stand against the wall over my left shoulder.

Butterfly stroke is an amazing one to shoot. Sadly pools are horrible to shoot (atleast, I think). The light usually is horrible, so a flash can't be left home...

I'm not expert, but that looks like a very nice flashed shot! No blown highlights, especially in the water.

Nice shot! If you can shoot a little lower it will make for a nicer face shot.

Did you try some without the flash? I ask because a small flash changes the light balance in the sense that it makes the water relatively darker and greenish (as opposed to a larger strobe or no flash). Indoor pool lighting is ghastly on a good day so this is by no means a criticism.

The lighting in this pool is horrible. I didnt try any without the flash, because I wanted to see what I was able to get with it. I definately like the shots with the flash over the ones where the flash didnt trigger. It really helped make the subject pop, rather then appear flat like it has before.

Nice shot.

What were you camera settings and what was your flash?

Thanks,

Andy
