I've come up with a rough design for some sandbags. What I need some advice on is the optimal weight for them. I'm going to be using them primarily at the bottom of the light stand.

each sandbag is usually 10lbs. Are you going to be posting you're design? would love to see them.

here's what i'm using for my sandbag: http://www.hangonind.com …ring%20Backpack%20101.jpg (external link)

filled a huge ziploc bag full of sand and sealed with duct tape...placed that inside the bag in the pic...the drawstrings go over the light stands and hold it down...

i got my bags for free - they hand them out in area 5k and 10k races...never knew they'd become so handy. :)

I've been using these Impact saddle sandbags for a few years now and like them a lot.

I use small rocks rather than sand and I put them into a heavy duty zip loc bag and then in the individual pockets on each side of the sandbag. I like this type of sandbag because I can change the weight easily and the 'saddle' aspect is nice for the legs or leg braces of light stands. I use one sandbag for each leg and then a bungee cord through the handles to keep them secure and raised up on the legs. This way they don't fall to the bottom of the legs or slide off. I carry a duffle bag with 6 of those sandbags and if it's not windy or slightly windy I can use 2 stands with 3 bags each or if it's a bit windy I can use one stand with all 6 bags. In that kind of wind I'm actually more concerned about the aluminum light stand breaking before it topples over from the wind.

I sure will Its a saddle design, right now its a matter of scaling them up so I get the right amount of weight.
