5D2 is not a camera for you. You should research differences between crops and FF before you consider them.
get 1DIII or 40/50D or 7D.

The only reason I ruled out the 7d is cause the op is steering away from video. So I would have to say if the weight don't matter 1d mkIII would be a birders dream otherwise if you don't want the weight 40/50d would be the choice. But its your call you will make the final decision

Price and video. Just cause you have video doesn't mean you have to use it. The 7D is smaller and lighter than a 1D and if you can afford a 7D, why bother with a 40D/50D?

Sounds like a 1D mark III is what you need.

I would lean towards a used 1D Mark III for your purposes. I don't like the AF on the 5D2 and who knows when they will announce an update. The 1D III has been dropping in price since the Mark IV was announced.

I would go with....I did go with the 1D. I have a Video Camera, takes long vedios. Can't go wrong with the 1D fast focus. It also handles those lens great.

I've had my 7D for almost two months now. I've shot one 30 second video of my cats. :p

someone should get into the camera consulting business.. there seems to be a ton of people out there that want complete strangers to help them purchase expensive camera gear.

go for the 7D or a 1 series op..
