I would like to share more of my recent bird photos.

I came to a Kestrel in distress, he had been shackled and the hanging ropes had got tangled on barbed wire fitted to a power cable post.
The tee bracket fitted to stop intruders climbing up the post was almost 2.5 meters above the ground. As I approached he got very nervous and started flapping his wings frantically, I was worried that he may damage his wings. But thinking if I just leave him he will be no better off.

So I drove my vehicle next to the post, I needed to stand on my drivers seat in order to reach him. In eye to eye contact I started quietly taking to him saying something like "let me help you little fella,ok,ok take it easy"

After some minutes he sat quite still and let me cut the ropes with my pocket knife. I tried to cut as short as possible so that he wouldn't have the same problem again. Unfortunately there was now way to untie the tight knots, one was already cutting into his leg, see in my photos below.

It was with such a great pleasure watching him fly away free.

Merlin not a great photo due to too much backlight but a lifer for me and a bird we see rarely here.

Hi Guys
Thank you for your kind words, but I think most of the people that visit this forum would have done the same to help the bird.

Later a friend asked me " you wasn't worried that he may take a bite at you? " wow, I didn't even think about that, so I guess we were both lucky.

I believe the bird was a wildlife bird (normally the local people don't try to train Kestrel) but they catch them and use them as bait to trap a larger predator. It's illegal but it happens I'm told
