** UPDATE - I HAVE MADE MY PICKS - THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP **

I need your help. I am trying to narrow down some photos for a portfolio and would like the opinions of the many great eyes on this site.

Below is a link to what I have narrowed down to date. There are 35 images and I want to cut it to 25. Please let me know which one's I should drop. I don't need for you to spend a ton of time on this finding exactly 10. Just a list of any you think should not make the final cut. That can be anything from 1 to all 35.

Each file is named P xx.jpg with xx ranging from 1 to 35. All I need to know is the xx numbers you think I should drop. If you click on the thumbnail from the gallery it will display a much larger image to view. The filename is just above the image on the larger view screen.

A couple of notes.

These are in no particular order other than I have grouped similar sports together.

Don't drop an image because of color or cropping. I will fine tune all that once I get the list narrowed down but if you want to offer any specific comments or suggestions I would gladly take it.

I thank you in advance for any input you can provide.

Thanks Dave, I appreciate it. I am hoping to leave this up for a couple of days to see what feedback I get and try to finish up my stuff either Thanksgiving or on Friday.

Alright I am back, I know that was quick but I figure ill go with my first instinct then look back at them in some time. The ones I cut were:

2,5,6,9,13,16,28,29,31. That is 9.

The reasoning for the following were:
2-The depth of field used isnt for the favor of this photo. I would like see him looking at the ball with the ball in focus as well. more dramatic- this was hard because i love the colors.

5-Lack of context, was he swinging at the ball? expression is great but lacks context.

6-could have been better if the play had been closer. I like the crop but It isnt portfolio material.

9-oof ref ruins the shot.

13- no face/expression and crop is a bit too tight.

16- again, great expression but lacks context.

28- great emotion but just not a keeper.

29- kind of akward crop as well as it seems a bit too weighted on the right side.

31- no context.

So overall kevin, from what I See, you capture emotion really well but struggled (at least in these portfolio shots) to capture some context. They are all great and you should be proud, but the ones I pointed out just are not keepers.

This is all my opinion so please take this with a grain of salt, because it is worth much less than that.

That is exactly what I am looking for Dave. Worth a lot more than salt that is for sure. Thanks a bunch for taking the time to review things.

Kev, I got 9 as well, can offer more specifics on why later if you really want but I'd definitely drop these if it were my book...(not bad images, just not portfolio)

2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 13, 17, 21, 23

Take what you want from my comments, just my comments.

BTW - You have some GREAT images, captured emotion well, sharp images, great low light (I'm assuming, or at least bad lighting in gyms) photos. :D

2 - I'd like it better with the ball in focus. Otherwise, I'm unable to read much into the photo.

3 -Good action, sharp image, just doesn't do it for me for some reason.

5 - Okay image, not great. Crop with just the batter would improve it.

6 - Too much going on for me.

7 - See comment on #9

9 - A different crop might help the image. The ref being so large and oof takes away from the story.

13- Sharp image, but he's running out of the frame and I don't know who he is (can't see his face).

19 - Tells a story, but for me the players in the foreground who are part of the story as well are too far away from the players telling the story.

33 - Okay image, just didn't do much for me.

I picked 13 to thin out...
2
3
6
7
9
12
13
16
19
21
30
31
33

To put a more positive note on it, I'd rather phrase it as "here are my favorite 22" and list the ones not listed above :)

Great stuff.

They are all outstanding images, and it is hard to choose. If you ask 100 people, you may get 100 answers based on personal preferences.

These are the ones I would cut:

2, 7, 13, 16, 17, 24, 28, 31, 33, 34

Good luck with your decision, I'm sure it will be a difficult one.

Wow!! Thanks everyone for the quick responses and the feedback. It is greatly appreciated and will really help me a bunch. After looking through thousands of shots my eyes were starting to cross so hearing different perspectives is fantastic.

Keep it coming.

Great shots but these are the ones that didn't make the cut.
2,16,17,19,21,23,24,31,32.
That's only nine.
All in all nicely done!

You have very nice photos as candidates. I'd be delighted to call any of them mine so it is a bit pretentious of me to criticize.

My list is similar to that of Clarence.

Clarence.........ZIV

2
3...............3
6...............6
7
9...............9
12...............12
13...............13
16
...............17
19
21...............21
30
31...............31
33...............33

I don't know if that helps.

As others have said - all good, but here are my cuts:

2-7-9-13-17-19-21-24-27 that's nine.

The tenth would be 33 of the racing buggy for the crop - too close to the right edge of the frame, nowhere for it to go. A different crop and I'd keep it...it's a nice pan.

Personal fave: 32 the tee shot. Well done.

Cheers!

For what it's worth I'd cut the following;
5
6
9
13
15
16
19
33
35

Some really great work there ... my favourite is 23, love 18 too.
