There is quality to be had from larger format film, that no digital technology today could replicate to the same level. Similarly digital can do things that no consumer film can do, like a quality shot at ISO3200 and higher.

Wilt,,,this is so true.. I often have a chuckle when I read posts about photographers complaining their 800 ISO or even 400 ISO digital images are noisy.. Obviously they've never seen a large print done from a 400 ISO colour negative..

BTW,,this week I had a 12x18 inch print printed off a full size image out of my 50D.. Iv'e done a 12x18 prints out of my 20D but the image out of my 50D rocked me.. The detail reproduction is superb and totally noise free.. This is similar quality I was getting out of a 6x7 negative..

In terms of hobby and personal preference, one can, of course, do whatever one wants. That's why there are more individuals who own horses in the US now than there were 120 years ago when the horse was the primary engine of both personal and commercial transportation.

I see what you did there.....;)

How's the percentage of horse ownership doing though?

Yep, that's the key, but that's also what we may see with film usage. It won't totally disappear, and the numbers may well look quite respectable (and film aficionados will point to their numbers proudly), but what will the percentage look like?

As long as the market exists to keep Tri-X commercially available at a reasonable price, I am not too concerned about the exact number or percentage of film users. If, hypothetically, I won a guaranteed lifetime supply of film (and developing material, of course), I would be just as content to be the only film user on the planet.
