Have you ever heard the musical parodies "Weird Al" Yankovic? The only thing that keeps them from being blatant copyright infringements is the fact that they are parodies, and the "parody" is specifically identified by the law as being excepted.

Al actually gets permission from the artist before doing the parady. I saw a Biography on him a few weeks back and I think Eminem is the only one that has refused. But he does get permission firsts.

But he doesn't have to.

Moreover, the artists themselves don't always own the copyright, but Al's interest is in maintaining a relationship with the artist and he makes a point of contacting the artist--not necessarily the corporation that owns the copyright.
