Anyone else notice that Lightroom 2.6RC and Lightroom 3 Beta are both pretty slow when it comes to loading each 7D RAW file? With 40D and 7D RAW files in the same catalog and source files on the same drive/volume, the 40D (and my old XTi) RAW files load significantly faster than the 7D RAW files ('Loading...' message stays on screen when a 7D RAW is selected a lot longer than the 40D RAW files).

I understand the RAW files are significantly bigger, but I hope the final release of LR 2.6 and LR 3 have better performance when it comes to rendering/reading the 7D RAW files.

Anyone with both a 5D MK II and a 7D compare load times of RAW files in LR 2.6RC or LR 3 Beta?

Have you considered the difference in FILE SIZE? bigger = slower!
double the pixels = double the file size = double the time to read.

I did indeed consider that when I first got the camera.

But the time to load in LR seems a lot longer than double than with the 40D. Granted, you don't expect time to load to scale exactly with the file size ratio difference.

I guess I could just grab sample RAW files from other cameras (i.e. 50D, 5D, 5D MK II) and test bench those on my own boxes.

Are you reading CF, or are you using direct connection? Or are you comparing the file load time within LR after the file is already imported into the catalog and you are pulling it up for editing?

After the file is imported into the gallery. Then clicking on the photo to render/load that photo.

I downloaded a couple of 5D MK II RAW files and it seems like it's only slightly faster to load those than the 7D. Perhaps the 7D RAW processing still needs to be polished in 2.6RC and 3Beta.
