You guys are always the first I come to, a wealth of information here. I have been asked by a model I have worked with a few times to shoot her and 4 other models for online and catalog modeling of apparel for a new company. The first photographer did the job and the photos we not good.

My questions is about charging for this, and possible licensing of the images. This is my first time doing anything outside of charging for family or senior photos, of TF with a model.

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated!

Bumping this to the top to see if anyone can give me a little advice...the shoot is Sunday morning. At this point I have only said I would do it (for my experience and potential exposure).

Anyone?

It depends what they want - exclusive, all the rights, etc. How big is the company? What did the other guy do it for? Clothing line is going to be used commercially so the price goes up - they're going to be making money for it so should you.

Definitely don't do it for free. If anything at least get your time paid off. Licensing is random but try considering your expenses of getting there/working there/wage/equipment and people costs (models, stylists, studio, etc.). Consider your set up time, your processing time and how long it will take to create the output (finished product, usually CD burning time or a web upload time).

If you anticipate 1 hour of shooting anticipate 2-3 hours of processing and preparing.

Off the top of my head I would do it for 100$ an hour + 80$ for each additional hour...so an hour or two hour of shooting, maybe pitch about 400. I don't know what your local market is but around here I could see that working.

This is before licensing.

Thanks guys, some useful info. The line is a startup that has just launched the website and the line will be out next spring. I am working with/through one of the models and have not discussed any of this with anyone from the line.

Right now I would expect to use it as TF and be able to get the models shots in my portfolio, and I retain full use and rights to all photos. I would then hope to talk to the apprarel line about usage of the photos and licensing or selling them.

I don't know about selling them, usually ads like those are editorial or stock..if you don't make your money through them then you probably won't.

Typically I know that, but as a local startup, they want models that are wearing their logo wear. Might fall apart now though...supposed to snow here tomorrow and the models are getting cold feet so to say...
