Hi guys,

as some of you know, i have been mostly doing wildlife and birds and honestly, my skills in Photoshop were quite adequate for that since theres really not much you should do to an image.

However, i have recently began doing a lot more portraits, events and even some weddings and while i feel that my PP skills are not terrible, they sure can get a lot better.

what i am looking for is some recommendations and advice on maybe some courses or workshops that will teach me some better editing skills especially when it comes to glamor, nudes, portraits etc.. from filters, skin smoothing, retouching etc.. i would love to learn as much as possible. and yes, i do own quite a few books and they did help me a lot but i feel that a workshop or a seminar might be better for my needs.

any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm notoriously inexperienced in portraiture, but I'll bump this with a couple highly recommended sites:

RetouchPRO: http://www.retouchpro.com/ (external link)

Lynda: http://www.lynda.com/ (external link)

RetouchPRO has a lot of tutorials dealing with portraiture. Lynda has a wealth of turorials covering pretty much everything, although there is a monthly fee (either month-to-month or yearly). It is, however, pretty much the highest recommended overall place for online training.

I would start by exploring the Glamour and Nude sharing section and participating in the Glamour and Nude Talk section.

Something that came up in another thread today regarding PS skills is shortcuts. Some find them very useful, some not as much, but in my experience being familiar with at least some for commonly used tasks is very handy. It's nice also that Photoshop and Lightroom have a lot in common.

My suggestions is as you go through the various tutorials, that you also spend some time familiarizing yourself with the shortcuts used. Over time you'll get a feel of what tasks you use more often and that could benefit from shortcut usage.

Here are a couple links to shortcut links:

Lightroom:

PS:

Hope this helps some!

hmmm, i don't think that i explained myself very clear here. i know PS, i know shortcuts and i know how to do corrections, levels, curves, masks layers etc.. what i am looking for is to enhance my knowledge of how to do proper portraits retouching, how to to add dramatic feel to a wedding image etc.. this is why i was mostly looking for maybe something like a workshop from a good wedding photographer or a good course about editing portraits.

with that said, that Retouchpro site is a great resource and i already stated going through the various lessons :)

Courses tend to be local, and I'm not in the Boston area, so I won't be much help there. But youtube is an incredible resource for photoshop tutorials.

This is the best I have come across.

http://www.digitalphotoshopretouching.com/ (external link)

There is a ton of folks giving seminar, but they just teach HOW-TOs. Very few talk about techiques and why. I attended Fernando Escovar and Robert Saunder seminars. Worh every penny.
