A typhoon passed right before it fully formed (5th one in 3 months).

Waves were alright but the conditions were really bad. It was really cloudy and it kept raining like every 15 minutes (it's a far walk on stacked rocks).

Nonetheless, I'm getting more and more interested in shooting surfers and body boarders and it was almost a month since I shot body boarders and surfers

as far as the images go, you caught the exprience well, but the shots are a bit soft.

Thanks for the heads up Dave.

Yeah, I need to work on that. I was using manual selection and spot metering. Was I using the wrong settings?

Also, I was there for about 3 hours and 2 of them was spent messing around with the white balance. that's how bad it was. :p

its possible... i havent looked at your exif, but depending on your settings you may have problems..

i dont shoot any surfing or anything so i cant tell you on the metering issue, but id probably shoot partial, spot may be too selective.

thanks for sharing antonio. as an avid bodyboarder, i'm always stoked to see "sponge" shots (especially here on POTN).

if you're really interested in pursuing surf photography, we should talk. feel free to emai/PM so we can exchange ideas.

not sure what you're shooting with, but try looking under your "menu" for Custom Function II - Image and "enable" Highlight tone prirority. this will help with controlling the whitewater throwing off your whites. as for WB setting, did you try shooting with the "shade" setting since it was overcast?

curious, what body and lens was used for these shots?

Thanks Jaewhy,

I'll pm you soon (should already by the time you read this). I did enable the highlight tone priority and set the high iso speed noise reduction to strong. I just need to read my manual about what "long exposure noise reduction" really means and "auto lighting optimizer".

I tried EVERY WB setting. hahaha. Out of the three hours I was there, I spent 2 adjusting wb and so and so. lol

I have a 50D and I was using a 75-300 f/4 non is. The lens is really dirty so I'm guessing that's why the shots get soft every now and then.

were any/all of the above images shot at 300? if so, every lens has it's strong point, maybe 300 isn't it for that lens? not sure

after all, sometimes those cloudy/bad lit, etc. days take the victory over our images. and there's a limit on how much processing one can do to recover. that's when i opt for b&w,etc. to create an artsy feel on those non-salvageables
