Any suggestions for a 'stuck filter'.....its on my 17-55 so I dont want to force it too much. Its a HOYA filter.

It looks like it is sitting on the lens properly, no cross threading that I can see....it just doesnt want to move.

Is there anything that I can use safely on the seal or should I try a little bit of heat....I am at a loss.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would take it in to a repair shop personally. That way, they break either the lens or the filter, they replace it...

sorry no tricks up my sleeve... I pay people for tricks.

Thanks Joelene.....yes that would have been my next step.

BUT....I have just got it off...thanks to the help of my hairdryer....very low heat, just for a few seconds and it came straight off. Everything is fine.
cheers Val

Sometimes they are 'stuck' simply because you put two of your fingers at opposite sides (9 o'clock and 3 o'clock) and that deforms the filter ring just enough to bind! Use less pressure, put three fingers around the filter (12, 4, 8 o'clock) and give a twist. It often helps to put a wide rubber band around the filter ring, so you get a better grip without excessive pressure around the periphery. And sometimes just putting turning slight pressure TOWARD the focal plane of the camera is enough to get the thing turning without distorting the filter ring via radial pressure.

In the future consider buying filters with brass rings (Heliopan or B+W), they won't seize.

my B&W seized :( but I suppose that was because I dropped my camera, it landed on my lens and turned it to an oval shape... hmm that filter ring is still on my lens...just the ring though...the glass is gone...sigh I need a new lens.

I don't think that is the definition of 'seize'.
