I think 50-60mp is more than enough, even many swear by 39 and 40mp, Leaf came out with 80mp, so when it will be enough for anyone even pros that more mp is not necessary, i think this mp story is endless.

once again this is a ratio.

3:2 is a format (rectangle)
6x6 is a format (square)

645 is 6 x 4.5 cm film. The digital sensor mimics the size of the 645 film back.

35mm digital sensor is the same size as 35mm film frame.

Canon 1ds mark I is a 35mm digital. 8 megapixels.
Canon 1ds mark III has the same sensor but has more megapixels.

megapixels have not much to do with the ratio and the "film" sensor size.

I agree. You can't tell the difference between 22MP and 60 MP on the web. The only difference is in the print and that's it. :) On the other hand, it could be compensation for a large sensor. ;):p
