No, it is. When you get your paws on a 1D body you instantly realise what all the hype is about. They are built like tanks, and that is a quality needed in the midst of a riot, war zone, or the wild. Being fully weather sealed is an obvious plus; I guess you either get it or you don't, but for me it's very helpful I don't have to be so cautious dealing with a camera that can take a knock or two! Just saying ;)

Hehe! Trust me Jahled. I know a thing or two about 1D bodies and certainly know what you're talking about. :) 1D bodies are just bulletproof. ;)

Oddly enough, snapsort.com claims that the 1Ds3 is not weathersealed...

http://snapsort.com …on/EOS-1Ds_Mark_III/specs (external link)

They also claim that lack of weathersealing makes it "below average", as if the average DSLR is weathersealed.

AFAIK Snapsort only updated weathersealing for bodies still in common use. Anything more than 3/4 years old is missing a fair bit of info.

So, the Hasselblad replacement hasn't been announced? I'm not very surprised. I can't afford it, yet, but there will be motivation once it's announced.

Latest rumor from CR (which seems to have as much credability as a random wino on the streets) puts the 1Ds at 42MP in a "more compact body." A smaller, more compact 1D body would be a godsend. The de facto pro body size taken from the film equivalents never made much sense in a digital context - batteries can be smaller and there's no need for drive mechanisms to necessitate such a large form factor when dealing with digital bodies. If Canon can get smaller than even the Kodak DCS 14n, which I've always considered the best looking pro body ever made, I would be one happy camper.

The same rumor says again that the 1D will move to full-frame. This is welcome news, imo. APS-H has stayed around a generation too long as it is. 28MP seems a bit too much, but Canon still seems stuck in this self-defeating megapixel war, so what are you gonna do - take what you can get and a full-frame, 10FPS, updated AF, and DIGIC 5 seem legit and might be worth putting up with overpaying for pixels I'll probably bin in some sRAW format anyway.

Make the next 1Ds a rangefinder style camera and I'm there! :)

This has been the wet dream of many (me included) for a long time now. This rumor sans the 42MP has been making the rounds for years. Not saying it won't happen, but I'll rejoice when I see it in the flesh and no sooner. We're way overdue for a digital version of the 1V.

The same rumor says again that the 1D will move to full-frame.

Another longstanding rumor. Again not holding my breath.

I'd love to see both:
- FF 1D--fast framerate, medium resolution
- compact 1Ds--lower framerate, highest resolution

And since we're dreaming, throw in a 5DIII with 7D-level AF or better (not 1-series AF), high resolution but less than new 1Ds, slow framerate, and 100% viewfinder. Talk about dominating all market segments!

Indeed. The bulk of the 1D(s) is a requirement that has run its course. Like huge cell phones of the 80s...

Another longstanding rumor. Again not holding my breath.

Wasn't the creation of the H-sized sensor essentially the result of the limitiations in processing power of the time? APS-H seems like a dinosaur throwback spec from a different time. I'd be surprised if we see another camera with this sized sensor - and disappointed.
