I would send it back and wait for the next full frame camera. I am not a regular crop user anymore.

Better yet I would trade it for a 200 f/2L IS.

well, i thought long and hard on FF vs the Crop... and waiting for 1Ds4... but came down firm on the need for speed which is mostly what i shoot. (Just delving into Portait Photography because of this website :) )...
the price was right and though I was going to wait till june to purchase, current shortages pushed that up...

so at this point, personally, i couldn't be more satisfied, really. Even if the 1ds4 was announced tomorrow... (and we all know if it was, you really wouldn't see it on the shelf until March 2012 or Summer 2012.... Its april already, and they haven't even been able to bring the 8-15L to market that was announced in Oct last year...

This is enough for me for the next 4-5 years.... by then, technology will have changed and quality will have increased enough to warrant a new purchase... um..that is if we're still here after 12-12-12 hehe

(my eye is on the 400 2.8L (not the new one, though...way beyond my price range))

thanks Julian and Adam :) - I hate manuals...but that new AF system warrants a little more than i'm accustomed to

Fresh rumor (external link) from NL:

2011 April:

13th A Canon pro DSLR announcement is expected in the next month, according to reports from NAB (thanks) - a suggestion that continuous AF during video was a key feature. No details as to whether it was 5D3 or 1Ds3 replacement.

Continuous AF during video means either contrast-detect (yuck), or translucent mirror. The first could quite possibly be done via firmware to current models, the second seems highly unlikely to me, at least this year.

hahaha... I was exhausted from catching the UPS truck!! Can you see me running down the block with my UPS Notice waving it.... for real...(not too cool at all :p)

it's my first 1D Series, so lots to get used to as I'm reading the manual, so don't think I'll get any real shooting in for a couple weeks. Current Intra-mural play-offs running now, but I'd better stick with the T1i for these next couple games I think.

thanks guys, i appreciate the well wishes :)

I might add I'm especially delighted that since early today, she's again out of stock everywhere... so snagged one at regular price! whew!

We may be discussing a camera that never materializes because it's been suggested a couple times through rumors that the name of the 1Ds3 replacement will not be called a 1Ds since this replacement might be a big departure from the past. Maybe low fps, more DR and more traditional photography tool than the industry has seen as of late.

Right, and Canon always gives consumers exactly what they want. At what point in time did pigs grow wings?

Canon has their heads firmly buried in video. I doubt very much that the primary focus of their efforts on the next camera will be still image photography.

Remember: Canon's DSLR division is run by their marketing department, and marketing types prefer form over substance, shiny over solid, and features over performance.

They also prefer solving easy problems over solving hard ones, even when the payoff of solving the hard ones is significantly higher.

Finally, they prefer imposition of artificial restrictions and "market segmentation" over producing the best products they can produce. They probably had bile in their mouths when they came out with the 7D, because it goes against every instinct marketing types have.

Right now, video provides the easy problems to solve and is the easiest subsystem to add new whiz-bang features to because it's relatively new and relatively unrefined. And still photography is so last century...

Canon cannot give everything every single customer wants. Canon will introduce what they think will sell enough so that Canon makes money. Get real.

Canon produces videos because many people are buying cameras with videos recording capabilities in them. You don't have to use video on a DSLR. It does still take still photos if you want to take them.
