No I was wrong. 1.5TB in computer and 2 and 1 outside.

I dont like cluttering up my box. It was in a case modding competition so it is pretty :p

Well I'm back from the photo seminar/trade show.

Of course Canon WOULDN'T divulge any information...no matter HOW HARD I pressured them.

HOWEVER, according to a few other well informed sources with contacts on the inside, the latest rumor on CanonRumors about a new 1D body, FF, 18 MP, 12-14 FPS 61 AF points etc can be taken as abt 95+% ACCURATE!!

The word is it will have higher/better Dynamic Range than the 1Ds Mk III.

Release date possibly March 2012, No price est.

Of course until it's "OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED" take it all with a grain of salt.

I was reading an adjunct article that tied into the Canon Rumors specs and the author brought up an idea that I hadn't considered before...

What if this new body was FF 36MP but could produce a version of M-RAW that happens to come out at 18MP? Can't push bits faster than 5FPS at full res, but cut the data volume in half and you can double the FPS, yeah?

Just a different take on the possible blending of FF and APS-H. FF takes a significant leap forward in file size but even the "speed" side of the equation gets a little bump in res as well.

Now this is a rumor I can believe easily and it would make perfect sense ;)

March? LOL... Good grief!

And only 18MP? What's up with that?

I think it might be time for a Canon fire sale. Or just stick with film. ;)

Well it might be the fact that they are trying to raise the ISO standards pretty high this time with the 1D series and probably with 5D at a later time.

Top notch AF, much higher FPS coupled with a full frame sensor and most importantly higher dynamic range.
I couldn't care less if they dropped a bit the MP in favor of superior IQ in every case. It would surprise me though since it is one of the marketing gimmicks of Canon, but it would be a pleasant surprise no doubt.
Canon needs to establish superiority in high ISO performance if they want to prepare a FF sensor that will probably be used at a later time in 5D series. I think their plan is in the "right" way this time.

megapixel war has become dull, the ISO war is now on! j/k.

someone who posted the specs before CR "confirmed" them, says the camera will be in the $11,000-$12,000 range.

One thing I want to add, the few people I talked with who had contacts on the "inside" said that Canon plans to have this new camera "replace" the 1D Mk IV as far as their top speed pro DSLR.

So it might be logical to think that Canon would like to keep the price in the vicinity of the 1D Mk IV. Still a bit higher at the start naturally, but more or less competitively priced with it.

JMHO.

I'm hoping they are starting a dynamic range war. 18MP isn't a big deal, so what HAVE they been working on all this time? The Sony A77 has this built in "HDR" feature but it's still a tone-mapping software trick. What if they have something new and awesome - a full 10 stops of DR in a single shot?

Same question is on my mind what with Nikon announcing their new 37 mp beast...that doesn't compute.

my take/guess is
the upcoming body will be -FF hi speed hi ISO low MP count (relatively) great dynamic range may be a new name (e.g. 3D) - well so far we know
A hi MP 35M+ will follow (1Ds5) with great DR and low (relative) frame rate
they will phase out the 1D line (1.3 crop is no more)
my uneducated 2c
