I'll be honest I am not sure that the older 645 lenses will AF on that body. But is listed that three different version of their 645 lenses that will fit it. You want to see something that will make U cry. Look at these files! A photo site in JAPAN has the full res files. CRAZY SHARP!

Bazzinga!

Hassy announced a 50MP CFV back. Too bad it's not full frame (1:1, 56x56mm). But still...

I think only 2-3 digital MF backs are a true FF MF.

What Canon should do is re-visit the design of the 1v. Basically a combo of the 1Ds and 5D. More like a pro-built 5D with removable grip (also pro-built). Add in the real AF system of the 1 series.

In other words, a 3D.

Why in GODS name would I want a grip that threads into the camera base. A 1D is not big and I have no problem carrying one with a 70-200F2.8 and 580 on it all day. More weatherproof, faster frame rate, more focal points and smaller file size 16MP for the 3D.

I'm not saying that they have to drop one if they get too close, I'm saying that based on Canon's historical tendency towards overprotection of their product line, it's extremely unlikely that they'll let two products in their line, that have such a huge price difference, get that close.

As an observation of the competition facing their product line, I don't see how Canon can get away with this business approach now. Nikon have caught up with their bodies, and in some regards obviously overtaken Canon at the pro/semi-pro end, as I think a lot of us have realised. Shabby AF is simply inexcusable, especially when it's your job not to miss shots when your gear lets you down, or have a poor keeper rate. My 5D2's can take some wonderful pictures, but it's the unreliability that has been bugging me for a while.

I simply don't see what they have to fear of adding a more accurate AF system to their replacement; Nikon seem on the verge of having just this and upping the resolution, which will start chiseling away at Canon's sales and customer loyalty. In the last couple of years that regiment of white lenses has diminished rather dramatically from photocalls at work, which is a rather telling statement to what the pro's are content with working with.

But this also leads me to believe something rather dramatic is on the horizon; why would Canon revamp some of their most used pro-lenses when they surely must have detected all is not exactly happy in their user's camp? Who honestly is going to invest in the 400L II
shooting with a cropped 60D? If you spend all that money on a huge bit of glass; you're obviously going to have wider aspirations in what more expensive bodies you can evolve to. Canon are renowned for the lenses they make, I can't imagine why they would abandon this reputation not supporting this by replacing camera bodies at the highest level.

A 1Ds4 is simply going to happen; it's just a very annoying question of when. In the meantime, I'm on the verge of a 1Ds3, and letting one of my 5D2's go. I love the return, I just want something I can sensibly rely on with AF

Just buy a 1Ds III. You won't be disappointed in the camera. In the mean time you can be out taking pictures and getting paid. I do understand your frustration with the AF on the 5D II and it's inexcusable. Using IR assist on the 5D II just to get the AF to work is a cop out/work around. We all are whining here bcoz' Canon hasn't pulled through but, what can we do about it? Whine some more? It really isn't worth the effort. All we can do is wait some more.:) In the mean time, let's drool over that Pentax and Hassy Digi back.

Good question. While I feel like the new 400 is a winner due to the lighter weight, I couldn't imagine a 60D user actually using one.

It wouldn't be the craziest thing we've seen but those products are targeted towards totally wallet girths so yes, it would indeed be odd.

You will be disappointed with the 1DS3 in low light though.
It's simply just not there in light of the 1D4 and 5D2, it has ISO3200, usuable too but that's it.

The skin tones are amazing from the DS3, better than any other body, so is the autofocus but I can't take it to a wedding without the 1D4 and to be honest I'd rather have just the one body and the other as a backup but I love full frame and can't rely on the 5D2

Also, whilst I can rely on the DS3 to focus correctly I'd like to get confirmation of it in the preview, however the screen is such low res you can't tell on zooming in so I stck the card in another body with a better screen to check!

Bearing the above in mind, I bet Canon crippled the AF in the 5D2 specifically to stop everyone buying the 5D2 over the others.
