what would be a better camera? a 1Dmk4 or a 5d2.
I want to get more into studio photography, landscapes, etc... so keep thinking the 5d, but then someone told me the 1d is better in studio.. is this true?

I would say 5dmk2 for the shooting you are wanting to do.

5d II for the resolution. If your gonna get a 1D for the studio, landscapes etc. don't get a 1D get a 1Ds. Your not gonna need the fps, and the 1.3 crop for studio etc. Your gonna need FF and high resolution and good glass.

until the 1d4 is released and many people use it, i think we cant say 1d4 is better/worse than 5d2.
but for me, i will take 1d4 instead of 5d2. i need speed AF in 1d body (to replace my current 40d). i dont really care about FF/1.3/1.6 crop.
:D

5DII for studio. 1D... maybe; if you shoot outdoors a lot too
but i'd still say 5D for studio shooting.

5d mark 2 all the way, 1ds mark 4 would be a better bet most likely, but i'm sure you don't want to drop 8000 on a camera (just a guess on the price based on the last model).

I suck at Photoshop.

Definitely the 5D MkII.

Portraits = full frame depth of field control.

Landscapes = full frame max detail.

You don't need fast/movement tracking AF for either purpose.

Plus, take the money you'll save and buy a new lens (or get the "kit" lens that comes with the 5d--24-105) as you may b wanting a little more reach once you go full-frame from a 40D.

It should be between 5dmkii or 1dsmkiii, not mk4. If you don't know what you need, you haven't reached the limits of your current camera, so just forget about it.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

whichever your pocket can take the beating... some people satisfaction is measured by owning the best and the most expensive item in this world.

but for practicality reason, get a 5D2, 7D and some good L lenses

The 1D will offer weather-sealed body, better AF, has a cropped sensor, and weighs more - the 5d offers a full frame sensor, lighter weight, costs less and is available now. I had both a 5d and a 1DS Mk2, and found myself using the 5d most of the time - simply because of the weight.
