Dear Canon.....

Just got my 7D, no big problems, just the fact that my top LCD lens is a swirled already. Why cant they put a glass or crystal lens on the top instead of soft plastic??? Also, anyone look through their VF when the battery is out of the camera?? Weird!!!

Yeah the viewfinder scared me a bit when there was no battery. Cause I looked through before I turned it on for the first time, and was like 'ahhh I hope it doesn't stay like that!'

That is why I buy a 4" Young Micro sheet (2 pack) for around $8. I cut one sheet to fit over the back LCD and the top LCD, the leftover sheet just sits on the shelf. Clear, you can't see it when it is on, and wipes clean quickly, etc. Everyone always talks about $15-20 to replace the rear cover, but really if your rear cover is scratched, the top one is as well.

$4 for one sheet is worth it to me to protect both LCD covers. I have replaced rear and top covers before, and the top is a pain.

The transmissive LCD in the 7D viewfinder goes dark when there's no battery in the camera.

You just need to stop obsessively polishing it.

Seriously, I've had my 1d3 for almost two years and a 20d over four and a half years and haven't noticed "swirls" in either LCD lens - and I don't baby my gear at all.
