We had a 6 days of rain here but I managed to get a few in the dismal weather... Not the greatest but I tried... I also built a bird roost for the smaller birds here...

Bird roost...
I have 3 perches inside that run all the way across with wood chips on the floor... All sealed and ready to keep them warm hopefully... Southern exposure too.. From what I've read, the experts say not to paint it... I just poly'd the roof and sides a bit.. Also scored the back inside wall for better footing... All 1" rough cut inside and out... I added an extra piece on the roof cuz the overhang wasn't long enough... Lumber was 10" wide and needed a little more..

Thanks for taking a peek..

Well, it's on the tree now but the dimensions of the opening are 16" wide x 3 7/8" high at the hinge and 7 3/4" total frontal height, 9 3/4" height at the rear x 7" deep, inside dims.. I have 3 dowel perches just a bit above center that run along the full width..

Nice variety of birds Norman. I think he meant the diameter of the hole.

I put up a roosting box two years ago. None of my birds ever touched it. If they did, they are house broke. :(

I was just out in the yard and decidedto check the roosting box. Someone had built a little stick nest in there. Must have been a wren. I don't think it was ever used though, as the hole is too low to the floor. Anyway, I cleaned the old nest out. :)

From what I've read, the hole should be around 2" from the bottom... Keep an eye on it though...
