Hello Forum Member's,
My name is Danny Lewis. I am 50 yrs old and in my prime. I recently moved back to the Cherokee Nation in north east oklahoma and found a Canon EOS IX with a Sigma 28mm 80mm 1:3.5-5.6 Macro Aspherical Lense and tripod and case and 4 roll's of new film and new batteries for 50 USD. Good deal or not I will soon find out.The pictures turned out somewhat grainy, either because the film was 5 year's out dated or because I used the 50mm UV Protector. I know nothing about photography, My last hobby was saltwater Aquarium's which I am still very much into but, my tank is full so it is off on another one of lifes many hobbies. The Bald Eagle migrates here every winter. Not far from my apartment is Lake Hudson where I see several Eagles flying overhead and in the distance nesting in tree's on a cliff side. Very beautiful bird's. I try to get close enough to take some good shot's but getting close to an eagle is not an easy task. I am on disablility and money is an object to a degree but doesnt stop eveything from being in reach. I would like some input on a good lense that will take good pictures from 3 or four city block's away. Hopefully under 400.00. I have been looking on ebay but it is at times a shaky place to buy. And I am not sure what all types and sizes of lense are going to fit my camera. Another interest for phtography is macro pictures inside of my Aquarium, and also deep space which I will not worry about that until I get this rolling and then I will invest in another Meade. As far as Lense I understand the EOS and EF will work but what about EF-S. And what other's can I buy without getting to deep in the hole? I have been reading past post on Lenses and will continue but wanted some input and to say Hello to all and it seem's like a cool place to start my new adventure....
Thank's to all who input. Here is a sample of really outdated film.
There was no maual with the camera so I am using the book from the EOS Lite which seem's fairly close.
Danny

Hi, Danny, and welcome to POTN.

You might check out this thread for film shooters: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=727911

You can use Canon EF lenses, but not EF-S. They stick too far into the camera and will interfere with the mirror.

I'm afraid that the EF-S lenses won't fit the EOX IX. They use a slightly different mount. Nor will the Tamron (Di II) or Sigma (DC) lenses made for Canon's "crop" bodies. They're all made for about a 16x24 mm "negative", not your 17x30 mm APS size, and won't cover the entire frame with a picture.

Is the Sigma 28mm 80mm 1:3.5-5.6 Macro Aspherical Lense okay for this camera. I am going to get something new off of ebay but I dont want to throw out a bunch of cash for something that isnt going to do what I want. Mostly Eagles and wild life and scenery. I have been checking out the forum. Any personal reccommendations would be great! thnx for the input.

Welcome to POTN, Danny!

The 28-80 is a nice general purpose lens. For wild life, you'll want something longer. I wouldn't go so far as to recommend a lens for you. Someone more qualified will probably be able to give you some suggestions. Enjoy your new hobby!
