Out of curiosity, I took a picture of the moon with my 400mm (1970s Soligor 400mm 6.3 manual focus) attached to a 2x teleconverter and a 1.4 teleconverter. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I had the 2x closest to the camera's body. I am pretty impressed that I didn't lose too much sharpness with two teleconverters. In my last moon posting (also my first), there was some debate on whether stacking the images helps any. The images below show a stacked image (14 images at 60% opacity) next to a single image. It looks like stacking the images definitely reduces the noise a bit. I stacked these manually in Photoshop. To me, it almost looks like the unstacked (uncropped) image looks sharper though. Maybe I'm a little off in my stacking technique. It's only my second stack.
