I guess I'll get this started. I'd just decided to try some shots like this, and monty came up with this theme!

lavanut -- Lisa this is just an awesome ice cube shot, I love the color, the bubbles caught in the ice and just the clearness of the ice overall.

John_B -- Man I love snow when it's other people taking pictures of it :-) Great job here John the detail of the snow is great and I really like how the pumpkin added some nice color.

Flo -- Gail I love this - color, exposure and texture is great. Bone cold is right!

Warl0rd -- Awesome - love how you used the gels to great effect, looks like two ice cubes melted together - just perfect.

You guys really know how to make a judges life hard! All of these are just superb and certainly made me feel the freeze!

The winner is lavanut!! Lisa you just edged out the others by a very very small margin. I kept coming back to this shot as the air bubbles, rich blue color and clarity really draw me to this shot. Congrats.

Once again thanks everybody for participating - I truly enjoyed these.

Congrats Lisa, great shot! Yeah, these were ALL excellent captures.

I had set some time aside for a shoot, but the wife needed some painting done...and painting is not my forte.

Monty, excellent challenge.

congratulations lavanut, I sure do love the deep blue on the winning shot.

I like the texture of bone cold, and the magnification of the Pumpkin Snow, although I think its too much saturated (perhaps to me snow = white :P)

Wow, thanks Monty! I loved the other shots as well.
John, have you all already had snow up there? Those are some cool snowflakes. :) We almost had snow in Atlanta Saturday, and they even extended Saturday AM news coverage to show the flurries in north Ga. We didn't get a flake here. I do hope we get some this year since flakes and melting snow are fun to shoot (as long as you stay warm).
Gail, what was that??
Warl0rd, that was a nice effect getting the 2 different colors. Nice touch!

I had planned to shoot some ice cubes after I saw interesting textures and patterns in some mini-cubes I had when packing food for a Thanksgiving trip, and lo & behold Monty posted this theme. I took it as a sign to shoot sooner rather than later. Thanks for the nod and the challenge, Monty!

The next challenge is up. I hope you have fun with "Light".

lavanut,
Congrats on the wim :)
Oh and yea we got 3.5 inches of snow here ;)

Warl0rd,
The saturation is because the flash was bounced off the pumpkin to give it the color ;)

To all,
I just noticed that the Macro DSLR Speed challenge has survived its first full year of operation!
Thanks to all participants for helping to keep it going :)
