Any issues with this setup? Just bough a G10 and already own the 420EX flash. I have the 580EX but would rather use the 420 dues to its smaller size.

You might check this thread, there seems to be some limitations on setting flash compensation in camera and then changing modes or going into playback and then losing the in camera flash comp settings when you go back to shooting. Flash comp made on the flash is not affected.

I think that is an issue unique to the G11. No reports of similar behavior on earlier G's. I first saw this on DPReview, and several G11 users had it, but no G10's. My G7 is fine.

The other thread had this comment:

With a G10 / 270EX combination, I can confirm you lose the menu compensation settings. Ditto with a G10 / 580EX combo.

However, the setting does remain fixed in both instances when using flash compensation within the Func/Set (centre button) option.

[This applies in AV and TV settings; I have not tried this in Green Box, P or Manual]

edit: I can also confirm the settings hold in P mode and, in Manual, the Flash Output setting survives. A brain-fade in AUTO; it was only as I switched to that setting that I realised the option did not exist. Duh!

Yes, yes, but there are NO ISSUES using the 420EX with the G11/10. It is a compatible flash. Period.

The other "issues" discussed in this thread apply to all flashes (and I suspect will be addressed in a firmware update, but who knows).
