However; on a friendly mission and we have plenty of defences from the Napoleonic wars and WW1 and WW2 along the Thames and around the country that could be brought into action again if necessary - Joke. Although the guns might be a bit rusty. Image hosted by forum (955944) © Ray.Petri [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. Please log in to see the good quality stuff. It's been a cruise ship, a car ferry and laterly an amusement venue. It's a shame to see a ship like this. First photo is in 2009 and second in 2016. It is an abandoned ship nobody seems to know what to do with and falling into a worse state of decay by the day. Not sure how it got hauled to where it is now but unfortunately the scrap value is probably less than the labour cost of scraping it. Ray-P

Emce Senior Member More info Post edited over 4 years ago by Emce. | Sad ending to one of the last traditional steam ferry’s. Did a little research a while ago as I vaguely remember as a young child traveling from Fishguard to Rosslare in a boat where you drove into it from a side entry. Only remembered it vaguely as we traveled at night. I recall driving down a tunnel into the quayside then into the boat. Turns out it was the Lancaster’s sister ship, the duke of Rothesay, which had been converted a car ferry in the late sixties. Found some images here, it was exactly as I remember it!

Almost like the sort of thing you see on old films of paddle steamers on the Mississippi. Just add a couple of paddle wheels and a steam organ. Sorry, just me really being a bit of a tw*t! Thanks.
