When I push the multi-controller in to return to the registered AF point the IS on the lens starts up. Is this normal? I've only had the camera a couple of weeks and I don't think it was doing this before. There seems to be some weird communications going on with the m-c.

edit: The focus even jumps sometimes when the m-c is pressed. No, I am not pressing the af-on button. :)

Did you change the settings for the multi-controller, and if you turn IS off, does the focus still jump?

I suck at Photoshop.

If I turn IS off it still moves focus a bit especially if I push the MC up instead of straight in. Very weird. One thing to note is that it works perfectly fine if I first push the AF point selection button, but this negates the point of quick access via the MC.For now I have simply disabled the registered AF through the MC and all is well.

So far I have only used the reg. AF point option to get back instantly to the center point which can still be achieved with a quick press of the point selection button and MC. Functionally it's not that big of a deal, but I don't want to have an electrical gremlin running around the camera.

Another note: It does the same thing with non-IS lenses as well. I put a 20-year-old drain pipe on it and if the registered AF point CF is enabled and I push the MC, the focus twitches.

Ya think?
I'm starting to think our cameras are getting like our cars - WAY too many electronics and gadgets for their own good. Soon it will be as difficult to diagnose an electrical Gremlin in a camera as it is in a car...OBD-II only gets you so far.
