I've felt my photo's look too.. plain? I just want my photos to stand out a bit more and not look so boring.

Post what you think, tips, etc.

Well go out there and keep on shooting lots of pictures. Getting a good shot is often a matter of taking lots of shots.

#2 is nice but flat with the lighting.

#1 is something you see every day with out anything interesting or unique about the moment -- homeless man drinking... flat light, no interest in the background, etc. Ask yourself, why did you shoot this? What drew you to this scene? Is there anything unusual about it or something that would hold your interest for anything more than a few seconds? What are you trying to say by showing this photo?

I read something in a book about perspective and how to make your photos more interesting. It said that photos not taken from eye level are the most interesting. Super wide, from above or below etc. Like your first photo is something someone may see everyday from that same perspective and that's what makes it less interesting but could potetially be a very cool shot from a different perspective.

I want every photo I take to evoke an emotion or memory in the viewer. Even if it means only having one incredible picture out of 300. It's about quality, not quantity.

Sometimes I get totally blocked and uninspired. When that happens, I'll go downtown and walk around and stop and take a picture every 20 steps. It forces me to find new angles and new things that I HAVE to make look good and interesting. Work off of that.

I like the first one, but cropping a bit off the R side might help make it a bit more dynamic.

I like the second one, but I think that by adding some grain, you can improve the image. However: grain is an acquired and personal taste. To me, it looks a bit too clean.

I love the 2nd one, but because the horizon (as judged by the short wall behind him) is off, I'd rotate it back to level.
