I am looking for a tripod and thinking of buying Feisol 3401 with Manfrotto 488RC2 ball head. On the Feisol website there is option of buying spikes (Long or Short) for tripod.

Are spikes usefull when using tripod. I am not going to use tripod that regularly.

thanks

I use an Induro that can swap spikes for "feet" and I like the spike option if I'm out in sandy ground in the desert.
