I've had really good experiences with Acronis True Image, versions 9 and 11. I only use it from the boot CD, and it has backed up and restored successfully every time I have expected it to.

That being said, I could not get it to work (version 11) with my wifes new HP desktop, it doesnt recognize the internal sata drive, which is weird, since both my notebook and my desktop have internal sata drives and it works fine with both.

That's the problem I am having. Norton Ghost won't even recognize the sata drive I'm cloning to. Just fine in bios. It's partitioned, formatted ntfs, partition active, etc.

When searching the internet for norton support / answers I could not help noticing that along with many complaints about norton there were an almost equal amount of complaints about acronis. That's why I'm looking for an alternative.

Many years ago there was an app that supposedly worked incredibly good. If I remember correctly, it was named something like Aloha Bob. But apparently, the borg assimilated them.
