Didn't the owner of DiamondBack use to be the president over at SterlingTek?

Makes one wonder what's going on at the OK corral! The owner of DiamondB is named Steve Chanault (external link); the owner of SterlingTek is Chris Sterling Chanault (external link). Is there a little "Family Feud" going on here? ;) ;)

I have two SterlingTek BP511 bats that work awesome...but it does look like DiamondBack's stuff is a little cheaper.

I was just able to use a $5 discount code at Diamond Back (code: 5carat) via checkout, which meant the $11.99 BP511 charger came out to a mere $6.99 plus tax. Can't beat that price! In fact, the charger looks virtually identical to the one that SterlingTek sells.

Anyone shed any light on this?

If memory serves me.... Diamondback got created when the two come to a disagreement about overstating battery capacities for the batteries they were selling at Sterlingtek. Again, could be wrong.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

IMHO, family feuds are of no concern to me. Sometimes family members just can't work together so they go their separate ways.

IIRC from a dpreview's forum posting, Steve used to manage Sterlingtek and left to start Diamondback. I think they get the batteries from the same supplier as I've bought from both and they look identical except the name and the accurate power rating on diamondback batteries.

I think diamondback charges about a $1 less for shipping with the same price for the battery and I like the accurate rating more, so now I buy from diamondback.

As I recall, the dispute was over the way the capacity of the battery was advertised.

However, I have had excellent service from both sources and continue to buy from them both.

I just dropped one of my Sterlingtek 2000mah packs yesterday. It wound up breaking so I took it apart. Inside were two 1400mah 3.7v 18490 batteries.. Hmm.. Not 2000mah are they.

Not shocking in the least. People have done some tests proving as much....but they are still a pretty good value. Just false advertising!!! :( :( That's why I'm inclined to push DB batteries....because at least they are trying to be honest about it.
