About the second week of January I will be looking to buy a 1Ds MKII. I need to wait till then for tax reasons as I will be taking the funds out of my RRSP (IRA equivalent). If you are considering selling your 1Ds MKII around the same time horizon, here is what I will be looking for:
1. 1Ds MKII in mint condition
2. < 20K shutter actuations on original shutter
3. A later manufactured edition so any problems with earlier editions were resolved
4. All the bits and pieces that would have come with the camera originally
5. Latest firmware already updated
6. Recent check, calibration and sensor cleaning by Canon

I will also be looking for a clean, sharp and mint copy of the Canon 70-300mm lens. This is the latest 70-300mm which has gotten such good reviews. I would prefer dealing with another photographer here rather than Ebay, especially dealing with a high ticket item.
Initially, I was not going to say anything until I had deregistered the money from my RRSP but then decided to let people know who may be considering selling their 1Ds MKII. Thank you.

Best regards,

Tim

wrong section, you probably want to move this to the buy/sell forum.

ps: copy/pasting a message you wrote for FM when you're addressing POTN might earn you a less positive reception. ;)

The information I posted was simply to let possible sellers know I will be buying a 1Ds MKII in January. This information might help them with any decisions they may need to make regarding the timing of their sale. Thank you.

That's all well and good, but it should have been posted in the WTB section, here: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=88.

I wasn't sure where to post it so perhaps the moderator could transfer it to the correct forum for me. Thank you for pointing the correct forum out to me.

Tim

Best of luck with your search, but given the spec of what you are looking for, I think you'd be better off buying new.

I'm not aware of too many people who would go through the bother of having their camera checked, cleaned and calibrated by Canon just before they were due to sell it. And any photographer who has actually used their camera will struggle to keep it in 'mint' condition (depending on your interpretation of mint, but mine would be as out-of-the-box).

Hi Sorarse,
I have noticed that quite a few had their cameras checked before selling them. Whether this was done before or after the decision to sell I don't know but I'm trying to preclude getting a camera and then having to send it in for repairs. My cameras are well looked after and as long as the camera I buy is in at least as good a shape I would have no problems with a minor blemish here or there.
I have only bought 1 used camera before and the chap said it was in great shape and it was so the experience was a positive one. He received my payment promptly and I received the camera in the shape he had stated. There has been 1 response to my thread and it sounds like he has the kind of camera I am looking for in regards to condition. I have no wish to delay someone from selling their camera but if their time horizon is similar to mine and the camera meets my criteria then I will buy it, it is as simple as that. Thank you for your suggestion and thoughts, hopefully this purchase, when I make it, will be another positive experience.

Kindest regards,

Tim
