I am looking for a digital camcorder under $500.......maybe over if the argument is persuasive enough but definetly no more than $700.

I have never been into video, but with a baby on the way in 6 months I thought it might be time to get a camcorder.

HD or SD? MiniDV, DVD, Internal Hard drive?

I would love to buy Canon but their Camcorders in this price range don't get the greatest reviews. What features should I be looking for? Any suggestions are very much welcome!

Thanks

I'll watch this with interest. I want to get one too for the same reason. A techy guy at work advised me to go for HD as it is better for low light stuff (his words). I'm guessing the f stop on the lense would make a difference too. Good luck with the bambino. Our's is due in 3 weeks.

No answers yet? I think I have settled on HD from what I have read. Its gonna run about $700+ but I guess you get what you pay for.

I sure would like to hear some opinions though.

NOTE: Also, I have put this in the wrong forum. Might account for the slow activity. I took a quick look at the digital video forum and initially thought it was only for SLR video. My mistake. Maybe if a forum admin could move this over for me instead of cluttering things up with a new thread? Thanks

I'll chime in but it's of no help... I have the Canon HF S11 and absolutely love it! I'm going to PM you.

Does it have to be a dedicated Camcorder? How about the Canon T1i?

I have a Canon HDV Vixia HV30 that I am extremely happy with. Not sure of cost as I don't pay much attention to those things. I just know I like it.

I've got the Canon HG20, and I've pretty happy with it. Love the 60gb hdd it has. Picked it up from Best buy for around $600 on sale.
