Came across "Hoss" on October 2nd in Glacier National Park this fall. The snow was flying, the temps were in the 30's and the wind was 40 MPH +. Awesome bear that I hope to get the privilege to see again. One thing I've noticed about Glacier black bears is they seem to be larger than other places, perhaps a testemant to the outstanding bear habitat.

Good series, Mike. Not sure I'd want to be out in that weather, maybe you are accustomed to it.

Excellent catch. That bear looks like it's ready for the winter. Where in GNP was that?

That is a massive bear. The captures are fantastic. I would have moved the camera a little to the left on the first one so his rear end was not cut off but other than that they are great.

That was on the east side at Many Glacier.

Thx. That weather is great for bear and moose. I actually camp in that stuff using a tent. As long as you have the right gear it's a very enjoyable experience. Gloves, hat and long underwear are definitely required. If you don't have a decent sleeping bag, forget it!

Great shots! I was in Glacier as a kid... I've got a trip planned to go back in May. I'm extremely excited about it!

Thx! On that shot the wind really messed with my lens, pushing the composition a bit. By the time I could readjust the bear had its head back down.

oh yeah...the place is awesome. If you like to do nature photography it's pretty much impossible to beat all around.

Those are great shots ! Love the poses . What lens and how close were you ? A few days ago i saw on the News on TV where a man fell inside a bear pit and it imediately attack him and mauled him and this was all caught on video . They shot the bear to get him off but the bear did survive but i have heard nothing on the man yet . After this i want no closer than a football field length from a bear and right beside my truck .
