classic...

I would say stick with the traditional placement of the strobes. If they are on clamps it should be extremely easy to move at halftime if you are just covering one team.

one problem with that though is that there is nowhere to clamp them on the bleachers because of how the bleachers are made... ill get a shot of the gym for you all today so i can show yo u what I mean.

You can see the limitation pretty well in the photos you already posted. The far side of the court would be manageable with a light stand since there is nobody there. The crowd side looks like it could be a challenge.

There is one gym around me that is similar in its layout. There is just enough room between the end of the bleacher and the wall to attach a superclamp to the end of the bleacher and then use a magic arm to get a bit of room away from the wall to attach the head. If you have something similar there, you might be able to mount on the bleachers at the top that are not extended in the photo.

You will get into a new set of problems since your light travel distance would be different, but if you were able to make that cross light arrangement from VB work, you obviously understand how to adjust and balance as needed.

Another thing to possibly look for on the crowd side would be conduit or anything else on the wall that the superclamp might grab. Those little devils will fasten to darned near anything.

Last suggestion, if this is a gym you shoot in frequently, ask if you can attach a mount to the wall. $5, a trip to the plumbing supply store and a few minutes of drilling and fastening and you would be golden.

it is a gym that i will be in quite a bit but I feel alot more comfortable not drilling into the wall lol... thats just me..

Keep in mind that this is just a scrimmage game. so the crowds would be much larger and all of the bleachers would be extended. Especially the ones on the right hand side of number 8. The bars that are on the bleachers on that side are very loose from what I have seen and Dont feel comfortable placing the strobes on there.

NOW, I could always use a safety cable or I could just put them on a light stand, but that brings its own problems associated with that.

kevin, keep in mind that the cross lighting system was with 2 speed lights pointed at the court so it is just a tad bit different.

But at the first game I will plan on moving lights around. one thing that I will be looking into doing something.

These look pretty solid. Not bad for non-traditional placement of the strobes.
Who is coaching kickapoo now?

As others have said, if you're only there covering one team or you're staying at one end the whole half and you can figure out a way to change them at half time or something, then you can get your ideal setup to light up both sides of the faces or whatever. Either way, these are pretty solid shots with the lighting setup as it is so I wouldn't hesitate to use it again if you don't have a good plan in place for the next game.

Great looking shots. That is how I usually have my setup. Works everytime.
