My wife and her dad at Thanksgiving dinner. Took the evening as an opportunity to work with manual on-camera flash. Did some exploring with the processing as well. C&C appreciated.

Sorry to say but they kinda just look like snapshots to me. Nothing interesting composition wise, maybe try to get a little more emotion out of them. Also did you bounce the flash? these seem like they were shot straight on making them very flat.

IMO - the image looked like it had a little orange tint so here is my 1 click workup using the White Neutralizer filter in NiK Color Effex Pro.

Does this look more like the original scene? Without being there it's hard to tell be IMO the image below has a little better color.

You would be too if your son in law nabbed both drumsticks and then insisted on taking pictures of your reaction.

From a composition standpoint, they certainly are snapshots. I was sitting on a stool in the corner of the room taking whatever shots I could get. The flash was bounced, but having it on the camera means the most I could do was turn the flash to a 90 degree angle to the lens and bounce it off a ceiling that was roughly 40 or 45 degrees. The ceiling was also relatively high, so I may have also cranked it up too far to get enough light into the middle of the room where they were sitting.

I was trying to keep the images warm for to try to fight off the hot spots from the flash (as my wife's skin is nearly reflective as it is) and I tend to like warmer images. I will go back and see if I can find a happier medium.

Trust me, there was plenty of Turkey, he just hates getting his photo taken.

WB definitely off on both. Way orange on my monitor. Good lighting and very sharp which is a real positive!
