I already have the 35L and the 50L but I'm planning on getting a 85mm lens.
Do I keep my 50L and buy the 85 1.8 or sell my 50L and get both 85L and the 50 1.4?

1) 35L + 50L + 85 1.8

or

2) 35L + 50 1.4 + 85L

WWYD?

what format camera are you using?

my dream setup on FF would 50L + 135L,

or 35L + 85L on a 1.6x camera (closer to what I have now.)

For full frame, I would go for the 85L over the 50L.

buy the 85 1.8 and see if you like the focal length first.
If you decide you like the 85 more trade the 50L and 85 for an 85 L.

Orr.. if you dont like it, get the 135L.

I say sell your 50L and get a 85 1.8 and 135L

I think the 35L, 85 1.8, 135L (my current set up) is a better combo. I had the 50 1.4 and always found it to similar to 35 and 85 to justify keeping around

Tough one.

I'd pick with option 2. If I have to choose between the 50 f1.4 and 85 f1.8, I'd take the 50. The 85 f1.8 while is faster AF, I use the 50 way more on FF and the IQ is really really good too.

The 85L is very useful for wedding and combo with the 35L, they are great for group and church.

Then save up and get the 135L and you're set (for now :))

I would opt for the 24L over the 35, then a 50L and 85L if you can swing it or the 85 1.8

I would go with this 24L + sigma 50 1.4 + 135L (or 100mm F2)

I would take the 85 1.8 personally. It can shoot well during ANY part of a wedding celebration. My 85L was about as useless as a rock during the dance. I think my keeper rate was something stupid like 1 for every 10 shots in good focus @ f/2, while the 1.8 gave me more like an 8 for every 10 rate for those fast and erratically moving people on the dancefloor (while shooting at f/1.8 ). Also, the 85 1.8 is tiny and light, which is great when you're carrying a bag full of lenses all day.

I would suggest buying the inexpensive 85 f/1.8. Capturing the "moment" is far more important then having OOF shots.

I love using my 85L for portraits and when subjects are slow moving. The AF is slow and this is not an exaggeration.

The f/1.8 version has very pleasant bokeh and the AF is extremely fast. Later on if your wanting more creamy smooth bokeh buy the 85L. If it really comes down to landing the shot and I had to sell one of the lenses the 85L would have to go. The 85L is phenominal but if it is absolutely impertive in landing the shot for the client the 85 f/1.8 will deliver beautiful photos. I cant let go both so I use the 85L for one purpose although the 85 f/1.8 can do virtually "almost" the same IQ.

If your happy with your 50L I would keep it as long as you dont have a major focus shifting copy. The 50 f/1.4 may fall apart in professional use.

Olá Felippe!

I'd choose option #2 but even that wouldn't be ideal.

Firstly, the 35L and 50L are too close in focal length. A 24L and 50L would be a better "spaced" out.

Secondly, if you don't have the 70-200/2.8L then I'd definitely get the 135L for those long candid shots.

Thirdly, I wouldn't take my 85L for most of the event unless it is for posed shots. In the 80-85mm range, I'd rather put a 50/1.4 on a crop camera (you do have a backup body right?).

I shoot most events with my 24-105L so I have all that covered. In low light, either the 35/2 or 50/1.4 comes out.

#2 with a sigma 50 instead of the canon one. I would choose that by a mile.

You could also consider 35L/85L/135L...I hear those are all pretty good...
