Hi, I am using MK3 most for sport. I have just slod my 300/4 IS last month want to upgrade to 328. The price for 328 with or without IS have price a lot different. Is there anyone compare these two lens before. What is the different? Shooting football at night, does 328 with IS much better?

Thanks !

Youming, I assume you mean the 300mm f 2.8 lens. The Canon 300mm f 2.8 lens without IS is no longer being made. It was replaced with the 300mm f 2.8 IS lens. The image quality of both lenses is very close. Is will not help you stop motion when shooting football at night but it will help you stop camera shake. The 300mm f 2.8 IS lens is without a doubt my best lens. I would recommend getting it with IS, otherwise the 300mm f 2.8 without IS can be found at a much lower price on the used market

Hi, thanks for the fast reply. I am thinking to test it next week. The price different is quite a lot. I have seen wothout IS can get at Singapore about just U$1700.00. Anyway, I have to test it, like you say, may be one stop get IS version

Thanks!

In the USA - Canon no longer fixes the non IS version. Probably in Singapore also so take that into consideration.

I have the 300mm f/2.8 IS and it is a cracking lens as you probably will have guessed, my recommendation is save for that. If you did buy the non-IS and something went wrong what would you do though if Canon are no longer fixing it? I was looking at a 200mm f/1.8 but decided against it due to the difficulties of fixing it when something went wrong.

Camera shake is a drag with long lenses. My guess is the IS is a very handy feature to have for those who use this focal length extensively. Plus you know the value on these lenses holds well so you will get your money back when you sell it unless you buy new.

Since you already had a 300 IS lens, don't you have some idea how much the IS helps for how you shoot?

IS seems to help .. but price -> is a loss of sharpness .. I only have 300F2.0 non IS, the only one I could afford to buy (IS version was out of my budget)..
but with a 70-300DO I have -> when IS is active sharpness is really not the same..
I prefer a higher speed with higher ISOs then just IS.. and of course for sport ... IS is not that usefull at all

Hi, I just want to compare these two lens, someone told me if shoot sport, IS is not very important, there are also some one say if put on tripod IS even need switch off. I think the best is rent a lens to try,

Tks
