Win7 64 bit and tethered shooting...

Well, I just bought a win7 64 bit laptop, and I have found out that it doesn't see my Rebel xt. Hence no tethered shooting.

I've been looking for a way around this, but so far nothing successful.

There are no WIA drivers from canon on any 64 bit platform, and the vista drivers (32 bit) don't install in win7.

I've read about using a virtual machine to run this but that's a bit out of my reach knowledge wise.

I've also read about a dual boot but have no access to any commercial OS.

Any help would be appreciated.

O yes and this is for tethered shooting not exclusively downloading the photos, so the "use a card reader" answers don't help.

I had the same problem with my 20D, made a thread about it maybe a week or two ago. Unfortunately, it just seems like its not gonna happen.

At this point if I need to shoot tethered with my 20D, I'll have to borrow my wifes XP notebook, which I gave her when I bought my new Win7 notebook. Either that or I'll have to buy her a new notebook so I can "re-claim" my old notebook.

Lol, what about dual boot? A friend of mine suggested linux, but having absolutely no experience with any other OS than windows I'm a bit lost. I did try virtual box and did a temp install with the disk of my desktop but I still couldn't get work with my cam, this time virtual box saw it but couldn't get it to work on the winxp virtual machine....

Dual boot with Win XP would probably work fine. I don't know if there are appropriate drivers for shooting tethered in linux.

Right now there is no solution I know of, other than getting a cheapo XP machine just for that purpose.

lol I know, it completely invalidates the second use I wanted for this freaking laptop.... I use it to present my retouch work, but for the more important tethered shooting it sucks.
