Sounds like auto ISO would fix that.

Even if the 5D Mark II and the 7D do have the upper LCD illumination button relocated, they still have the Metering/WB, AF/Drive and ISO/FEC buttons in the same place, relative to everything else. Like the trigger button. So if you are used to a certain move to hit the ISO button, when using the 40D, you do exactly the same move on the 7D. The only difference is that some of the other three buttons you don't use anyway are elsewhere.

Exactly...I'd take a useful auto ISO feature over another control wheel.

But using auto iso when your using the camera in manual to get the result you want defeats the object of manual doesnt it :)

I know its not difficult to hit iso and alter using the top wheel, but thats not my point really, the new breed of high iso cameras changes things imho, iso has now become a bonafide element of exposure values and as the low light capability gets better it will become even more usefull to directly dial in the iso along with av & tv :)

oRGie - I am an EOS and the 7D was my idea

I was more replying to FlyingPhotog's scenario of wanting to change the ISO very quickly with the finger on the shutter - perfect application for auto ISO.

I use high ISO all the time for what I shoot and frequently change ISO while shooting, and I've always considered ISO to be a "bonafide element of exposure". The button+wheel configuration does not seem to be a hindrance to me. Adding another wheel may even be a less ideal solution as it may require more reach than the current 5DII/7D layout or require the some other control to be moved from its current location.

A third dial would be awesome, right in front or behind the shutter speed dial
