Right!

Every older generation thinks the younger ones are for crap.

"The kids these days! Geez! They don't know how to work hard. They want everything handed to them. They don't know how hard we had it."

Guess what? Your grandparents said the exact same thing about your generation.

And Socrates said it about his younger generation. But that doesn't make it wrong; it merely affirms it. Generations upon generations of those who have lived long enough to gain a modicum of wisdom have reflected upon the follies of youth.

Well yeah, youth is always dumb, but they are no dumber than the earlier generations were at the same age.

I envy todays 20 year olds in some ways. They are coming of age at the time of a watershed technology. The internet is reshaping civilization as information is constantly available. I think this will have as large an impact as things like the wheel, the car, the corporation and electricity.

Someone once said half of knowledge is knowing where to find it or something to that effect. Until not long ago the top search on the internet was Brittany Spears, I think Socrates was on to something.

I think you're being melodramatic, there will always be room for talented artists. I have no doubt that there will be more crappy competition for photogs and maybe a bit less opportunity but so long as there are couples who actually wants nice photographs of their wedding and families looking for nice family portraits I imagine there will still be room for real photogs with talent. And that's not even getting into fashion, product, and fine art photography that requires far more talent than equipment.

No I'm not being melodramatic. Re-read my initial post. You just re-iterated exactly what I said with your post.

I've looked through your posting history and I'm beginning to think you need to put down the big spoon and quit stirring the pot so much.

It's getting tiresome...

How condescending would you like to be? It's an interesting topic, one that interests me.

Feel free not to participate, your participation certainly is not mandatory.

Yup, I don't have the time or energy to sift through mountains of crappy photos to find a few gems.

A crappy photo is a gem to somebody and a gem is crappy to someone else.

Ok, fair enough, but I was referring to ME, and why I don't personally have a flickr or spend much time browsing it.

I don't have one, because what my clients think of the photos I produce- whether the client is triathlon australia, a wedding couple, or a kids session- to me is much more important than what strangers think of them.
