Question about Sennheiser G2 Mic

I would search on google, but I get so confused because there's so many different kinds of setups with this mic. I'm completely new to this btw and figure I just want to make a one time investment rather than continually upgrading.

The one I was looking into was this one in particular:

My questions were...

  1. Can headphones be connected to the mic so that i would be able to hear myself?
  2. Can any mic be connected to this? Like if I wanted to connect an XLR mic to it, would it be possible?
  3. Would you recommend something else for use in something like doing interviews and documentaries under the $500 price range.
Any help is well appreciated, thanks!

if you want to connect an XLR mic, get the other package w/ the transmitter "block/cube".

There's a C-block frequency that's discontinued in america due to FCC regulations, if you can find those they might be a lot cheaper.

for interview, you just need lavalier set like you linked.

I personally like the shures, they have a replaceable antenna! it's a big deal as they will break and you will have to replace them. Shure is reliable.

You can't plug headphones into the receiver. You need to plug the headphones into the camera or audio recording device to monitor audio.

I think you can... I am pretty certain you can. I think I did this to tested out the sound coming out. These system has a great preamp and output a really great hot signal.

I tested on both C-block and A-block, not that it makes a different...

I have the unit sitting right here and there's no headphone jack. Just the 1/8 output.

Unless you're referring to a workaround that lets you monitor audio straight from the receiver, which is possible.

Or we're not thinking of the same unit -- the EK100 -- which is very possible as well.

I dont do video for my camera, but at work we have quite a few shure lapels but their recievers are rack mounted i dont know if you would want to limit movement like that. Then again im sure shure makes a "portable" battery powered reciever.
