Hey all,

Im hoping this is a simple fix and that Im just being an idiot, but Im having some sort of issue with EOS Utility. Im going to be shooting in the studio for the next few months and prefer to shoot tethered when I can. Everything Ive read suggests that you have to have EOS Utility to do so. Whenever I run it(Ver. 2.6.1) and I plug in my camera, it tells me it's not recognized. Any thoughts??

Thanks!

They're definitely closed. I *think* 2.6.1 is current but I had to download it from the 5D2 page because almost nothing shows up on the 7d page for OSX

what about the version that came with the camera ?

they may do what Apple do with there new products ie they supply a modded OS for use until the current versions catch up

just my 0.02 cents

It appears as though there wasn't a disk for it in the box. Only one for "using canon accessories. I never noticed it because I dont use any of the Canon software and never installed it. I just use Lightroom and Photoshop. I suppose Im going to have to give them a call.

I think you can download the EOS utility from the Canon site.

if I'm not mistaken you have to have A version of it on your computer to be able to download an "updated" version...

I have "Snow Leopard" on my Mac does anyone know if that may be why it doesn't "see" my camera?

Hope you don't have the same problem I had. I never could get it to recognize my camera with my 40D and Sony Vaio laptop. Tried everything, spent weeks on it. Read every thread here on it. Got a new laptop (also Sony Vaio) a few months later and it all worked fine the first time. If you have another computer try installing it there just so you can rule out a problem with the camera.

Both of my computers are Macs running Leopard(not snow Leopard as I dont have CS4, iI have CS3). Im certainly not going to be buying a new computer just to get tethering to work. It ought to work regardless. The most updated version of the utility I saw on Canon's website is the one I have, which I downloaded from the 5D2 page as the only thing on the 7D page are DPP and Image Browser.

I guess I'll be giving Canon a ring after work(glad they're open Saturdays!) and hopefully they can help me sort this out.

As was mentioned above, the download will not install unless you already have a version of it installed on your computer.

The question becomes, do you have a version of it already installed? If not, do you have a Canon Solutions disk from which you can install ANY version of the EOS utility, no matter how old? Once you have that installed, you should be golden with the install of the newer version.

The version of EOS Utility for the 7D is v2.7.0.3 which is what's on the CD that came with your camera. If yours didn't come with a CD, you should go back to the store where you bought it and let them know that and see if there's anything they can do for you. Otherwise, you can buy a copy from Canon.
