I have been shooting with a canon rebel xt since it came out, I like it and am impressed with its image quality, been printing 8x12s and slightly bigger and glorious results.
the issue: I feel I have out grown the XT, it is not fast enough for me.

I like to ski both water and snow and take pictures of these sports, like to capture big air sequence shots, 3 fps is not enough to capture these, not to me at least. I shoot sunsets, architecture, landscapes as well, normally outside in various weather, often times around water, but camera care has never been an issue before.

I am trying to decide between the 50D and the 7D for fast action sequence and all around fun photography. Dont really care for all the dumbed down functions on the 50D, though I do not need to use them I suppose, I only shoot in manual. I dont understand why people complain it takes to long to set up for an exposure, its just simple turn of the dial.

not sure if 6.3fps is fast enough or not, seen sequence photos on flickr from 30-50D that look pretty good, pretty fast.

as for the 7D, I'm not really into video nor want to get into video however if I had it I am sure I would experiement with it at some point. Also do not really need/care for an 18MP camera. the 7D is new, too early to tell how good it is over all? maybe it is as awesome as canon claimed it is upon release.

I have looked at reviews and comparisons all over the web and am sick of reading all the BS involved in them as far as IQ and noise arguements. I have seen image comparisons online and they look very close at 100%, woopie.
I have seen 50D 8x12 prints in person and have fallen in love with the sharpness, the quality is great, makes my photos boring in comparison. enough is enough chit chat.

advice I am looking for: will 6.3fps be enough or do I want 7fps for outdoor action sports all year round? will a 50 or 7D fit me better?

also, if I where to shoot sRAW on the 7d, would the image be the same as if I shot a RAW image on my XT? 8mp? is the pixel size on the sensor the same no matter what size format the camera is set to? I dont know if I would shoot at 18mp if I did not have too and still get good images unless I was going to print something really big.

is L glass really the only glass that is up to par on these high MP APS-C cameras, i have been reading and seeing great lenses from Tamron and Tokina used on the 50D with great output. L glass is so damned expensive and it seems that compition can/should be fierce and comparable.

thanks for helping in the debate of 50D or 7D for all around shooting and action sport. I do not shoot for money, its not my job, just a hobby, I love it.

oh also, I cannot purchase a FF camera unless a slightly used 10fps 1D mk2 turns up for a stupid good deal. I do not want a 40D, 30D, or another rebel, I want to expand my learning curve and am comfortable with the 1.6 crop factor.

looking at purchasing camera at a big local electronics store, since they have financing there.

I hope I covered all the bases for what I am looking for. I would look for their advice but I dont trust they know what they are selling/talking about, oh its new and has lots of function and its 18mp so it is the best in the world.
also affraid of biased reviews/advice from owners of a certain camera.

I have tinkered with both cameras in store and they both are comfortable to hold. sounds like the 50D might be easier to get accustomed to, but when I was playing with the 7D I was able to navigate everything pretty easily, just some of the hi-tech gadgetry I DO NOT understand.

is 19 point AF really that much better for action shooting, burst shooting?

I want a better camera and to learn and experiement more with it

thanks very much for your advice/help

Forrest

First off, I don't know the seller.
This is a steal with only 7K clicks.
The 2N is one of the best cameras built.
For $1500 you will never regret it.
I'm actually debating buying it even though I have enough bodies.
Buy it and shoot the crap out of it, you just can't beat the performance for the price.
