I just bought the new 100L.

I sold my old 100mm macro for it, but I was choosing between the 100L and the 35L, but I love macro to much.
Tonight I'm gooing to test it, couldn't be happier!

Just a question tough!
Is it normal it shakes inside the lens? I think it's the new hybrid IS, but it makes alot of noise actually..

Congrats!

I don't THINK mine shakes at all...then again I don't go around shaking my lenses violently ;)

The IS is a beautiful thing...here is an image I took last night handheld at 1/8th a second. I was in the prone position but no tripod.

It also does great portraits

The IS unit will rattle when the camera is off (or the lens is off the camera). Power up the camera, and the IS unit will lock into place. Perfectly normal. You'll love the lens, it's amazing.

Congrats Jelle.

Mine doesn't make a lot of noise. The IS is quieter than the one in (for example) the 70-200 that I had...
It's normal that it shakes a little, but it's nearly silent imo.

My IS makes a louder noise if panned. In typically relatively stationary position its silent like you say.

That's indeed true. When you pan the camera, you hear it louder.

ya, i tried panning it last week during thanksgiving.
the 100L didn't like that too much. it made a lot of noise, kicking and screaming until i finally took it out of the oven and sauce it was in.

i thought it would be tasty if i could pan it (pan roast it) with a little sauce and serve it up for dinner. guess i was wrong. the 100L has feelings ya know.

Ok thanks guys!
The noise I heard was when the lens was oof the camera, and I saw it rattle, but indeed, whe nthe camera is on, it doesn't make a noise.

Tommorow I'm going to test this baby, I hope it will meet my expectations!
